Installing CHDK

Refer to the image below for control references.

Before downloading CHDK check the firmware version.

Check firmware version

  1. Create a file ver.req or vers.req in the root directory of your SD card
  2. Turn on the camera using the Playback button
  3. Press FUNC./SET + DISP. together and the firmware version will display e.g. Firmware Ver GM1.03A

Copying CHDK to SD card

  1. Download the CHDK package associated to camera and firmware from the autobuild server http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Downloads
  2. Extract and copy to the SD card

Loading CHDK

  1. Turn on the camera using the Playback button
  2. Press the MENU button
  3. Scroll to the option Firm Update... and select
  4. Select OK to update the firmware

Starting CHDK

  1. Press (Shortcut)/(Print/Share) to enter <ALT> mode
  2. Press MENU to enter the CHDK settings menu

Automatically Loading CHDK @ Startup

To make CHDK automatically load at startup, install CHDK and make it bootable with CardTricks. This only works for SD cards 4GB or less.

Installing CHDK with CardTricks

  1. Download CardTricks from http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Cardtricks
  2. Extract and start CardTricks144.exe
  3. Select SD card drive
  4. Click Format as FAT button to format card with FAT16
  5. Click Make bootable button
  6. Click on CHDK->Card and choose the CHDK package zip
  7. Press Exit when done
  8. To auto boot LOCK the SD card before inserting it in the camera

Setting up DNG for RAW

Creating badpixel.bin

To enable DNG, the badpixel.bin file must be created for the camera

  1. Enter <ALT> mode
  2. Press MENU
  3. Select Scripting parameters...
  4. Select Load script from file...
  5. Open BADPIXEL.LUA
  6. In <ALT> mode press the SHUTTER button the camera will take a few snapshots
  7. Wait til you see press SET to save file
  8. Press FUNC/SET to store the badpixel.bin automatically in the right place

Notepad icon.png Note: Before running the script set the camera to the lowest ISO; this will help reduce the bad pixel count

Enabling DNG

  1. Press PRINT to leave the <Alt> mode, press PRINT again to enter <Alt> mode
  2. Press MENU, go to the RAW parameters, enter it with FUNC/SET
  3. Enable the settings Save RAW , DNG format and DNG file extension
  4. Press PRINT to leave the <Alt> mode again
